Description
Split-leaf palmette motifs can be usually found on different imperial Ottoman workshops, and are believed to be inspired by early Islamic patterns and other Persian manuscript illuminations.
The Ottoman artists creatively adapted this motif for their decorative works of arts such as: manuscripts, metalwork, textiles and ceramic tiles, and rarely on crockery such as on our present lot.
The dish is of a rounded form with a flat rim on a short foot painted with underglaze polychrome cobalt blue, turquoise, relief red and black on a white background, designed by full and split-leaf palmettes, the rim decorated with rock and breaking wave pattern.
Condition: Minor chip repair, chips to the rim, crack and firing cracks to the base.
