A Gold And Silver Damascened Koftagari Steel Box, India 19TH. Century

Of rectangular form with wide slightly sloping foot and separate hinged lid with cusped edges, the surfaces with damascened decoration, the lid with two fluttering birds against a ground of a leafy scroll issuing the occasional flower-head, the sides with a bold scrolling vine issuing reciprocating complex floral sprays, the decoration reserved against a pounced silver ground, the interior of the lid with geometric design, the interior with a later, probably of a European wood casing and later lock with key

Condition: generally in a good condition, some rubbing to the gold and silver damascene.
