Description

Of a round and slight deep form with a wide rim, painted in brown lustre and cobalt blue over cream tin-glaze earthenware. The front of the charger is decorated in golden brownish lustre with a band of alternating palmettes or a circular vine stem with alternating leaves painted in underglaze cobalt blue colour amidst various scrolling floral motifs and flower heads, the centre is fitted with a raised circular edge and painted in brown lustre, probably for holding a jug or ewer, the centre is decorated with a long flowering stem with floral and leafy tufts.

The backside of the charger is painted at the centre with a very powerful image depicting a large crowned eagle, the borders are decorated with a slightly spaced bands of large circles surrounded by stylised scrolls.
