This exquisite wine-colored Taqsireh jacket, dating to around 1880, showcases the rich textile heritage of Bethlehem during the Ottoman Empire.
Made from hand-loomed, plain felted wool fabric likely from Aleppo or Homs in Syria, it features intricate coaching embroidered techniques in vibrant shades of orange, black, blue, and yoke scarlet cords.
Nicknamed the “taqșireh mushajjara” or “arboreal jacket” due to its natural, floral-inspired embroidery along the front, back, shoulders, and sides, the jacket stands out with its tartan lining and vibrant scarlet cord embroidery accented and additionally embroidered with details by silk threads of various shades of pink, blue, purple, white, orange and green.
