This fine and rare Mamluk-style underglaze-painted pottery vase by Edmé Samson, Montreuil, Paris, dating to the second half of the 19th century.

Designed in the Mamluk revival aesthetic admired in 19th-century Europe, the vase features a tapering form decorated in cobalt blue and black underglaze on a white ground, with floral and arabesque motifs, composite palmettes, lions in roundels, and Arabic calligraphic cartouches inspired by Mamluk Islamic art.

The underside bears the Kutahya-style Samson mark, confirming production by the noted Samson workshop.
